Adobe Photoshop: A Complete Course and Compendium of Features

by: Stephen Laskevitch (0)

Adobe Photoshop: A Complete Course and Compendium of Features is your guide to creating, editing, and enhancing images and designs in Adobe Photoshop. Whether you’re retouching a photograph, making a simulated chalk drawing, or creating a composite photo with a 3D drawing, Photoshop is the tool for you—and this book will teach you what you need to know.

First, with a complete Course that includes a set of projects and lessons derived from Adobe Certified Instructor Steve Laskevitch, you will learn the procedures needed to use Photoshop effectively and professionally. Dozens of lessons are included that can be applied to any graphics you have in mind. Through these step-by-step lessons, you’ll be exposed to all of Photoshop’s features in practical contexts and its best practices for optimal workflows. To complete the Course, we’ll supply lesson documents and their assets to download. These can even serve as starting points for your own projects.

Then, for greater depth of knowledge and subsequent reference, you’ll use the Compendium to uncover more of the “how” and “why” of Photoshop. With each topic easy to access, you can find and explore all of Photoshop’s key features and concepts in depth. With cross references between the Course and Compendium, the two parts of the book complement each other perfectly. Best of all, when the lessons in the Course are done, the Compendium will continue to serve for months and years to come.

Learn step by step how to:

    • Set up an ideal workspace
      • Master selections and masks

This book bought information and graphic knowledge regardingwhat Adobe photoshop is all about.

I've done many Adobe Photoshop tutorials, through my Creative Cloud subscription, and other books that I have purchased through the years. This book is the very BEST for telling me everything I had hoped to learn at this point in my Photoshop skill level, and more! It is easy to follow and goes into much hoped for detail. None of the other tutorials included in Creative Cloud and none of the other books I've purchased in the past ever explained things so well. It is easy to follow, fun to read, plus it has great exercises for honing in the skills it is teaching. I am a professional photographer, self taught at Photoshop. Not only am I learning totally new skills in Photoshop, but I'm finding in reading this book that there are many Photoshop tools and features I've been using through the years, but never totally understood in detail. I realize that up till now, I haven't been getting the most out of the Photoshop features I was using. I highly recommend this book to someone who has used Photoshop for years, doing the basic skills with a fair amount of knowledge, and is ready to take it all a step higher.

This is a handsome and rather expensive book, with fine color illustrations. The problem is that there are exercises which are offered to go with the book, but I am unable to download them. The publisher does not answer their telephone, but only accepts messages, which (they claim) is more effective. But actually, as they do not answer their messages, this means NOTHING.Nor can one reach the author. As far as this user can tell, Rocky Neck may be our of business. Thus this purchase is a loser for me, and I would not have anything to do with the publishers unless you have a way of reaching them.

The PSD book is good, but I advice you to register for a face to face or online class as just a book to work on demand a lot of motivation and discipline. Not everybody is able to learn this way. As a complement to a course this book is perfect. It covers everything you need to know and much more as PSD is a complex software. Lots of texts, but clear explanations easier to apply if you have already a little idea of PSD.

This digital Photoshop book has been a real lifesaver for me during my COVID furlough! I took the author's class in January and then got too busy to review and mentally integrate all my class notes. Now that I’m furloughed, I am using this time to hone my chops. I appreciate the instructional design concept, which includes initial chapters with accessible, hands-on lessons, followed by a compendium in the back that provides deeper dives on each subject. This keeps the reader from getting too bogged down in the details initially, while still providing more in depth information once one has absorbed the basics. This book has the added benefit of being well-written and carefully crafted, which I cannot say for my (now largely unintelligible) class notes.

This is a great book for an intermate Photoshop user. It covers a lot of basics I thought I knew and explains how they work, which I also thought I knew. It has improved my workflow and I'm about to buy the Illustrator version. If you're advanced you probably already know this stuff. If you're a beginner, you would probably profit from much of it.I highly recommend this book.

Good exercises. Very helpful getting started.Would have given five stars but... I had some trouble downloading the files and emailed the publisher for help. They never got back to me. Fortunately, I figured out how to download the exercise files. Otherwise the book would have been useless. You would figure that a company trying to sell you stuff would try and be helpful. Apparently I figured wrong.
